Cheap Car Hire Chile

Welcome to Chile: Adventure at the Edge of the World
Stretching along South America’s western edge, Chile is a land of extraordinary contrasts, arid deserts in the north, lush forests and volcanoes in the south, and towering peaks of the Andes running the length of the country. Whether you're planning to explore the dramatic Atacama Desert, sip wine in the Central Valley, or venture into the wilds of Patagonia, hiring a car in Chile gives you the freedom to experience it all.
Most travelers arrive at Comodoro Arturo Merino BenĂtez International Airport (SCL) in Santiago, Chile’s capital and main international gateway. From there, the country opens up in every direction. Compact cars are perfect for city travel and highway cruising, while SUVs or 4WD vehicles are highly recommended for mountain routes, Patagonia, and national parks.
Picture yourself driving through the moon-like landscapes of Valle de la Luna in San Pedro de Atacama, winding through the Andes to the colorful port city of ValparaĂso, or cruising south on the legendary Carretera Austral, one of the most scenic drives in the world. With a hire car, you’re in control of your journey through Chile’s stunning geography and diverse climates.
Chile’s regions each offer a unique experience. In the north, discover ancient geoglyphs, high-altitude lagoons, and geysers. In the central region, tour world-renowned vineyards and colonial cities. Head south to explore fjords, glaciers, and snow-capped volcanoes, or even take the ferry across to Chiloé Island, known for its colorful stilt houses and mythology.
Driving in Chile
Chile has one of the most developed road networks in South America. Highways around Santiago and major cities are well-maintained and often tolled. Rural areas, especially in the south or far north, may feature gravel roads, requiring careful driving and ideally a high-clearance vehicle.
Driving is on the right-hand side, and seat belts are mandatory for all passengers. Mobile phone use while driving is not allowed unless using a hands-free device. Speed limits are typically 50 km/h in cities, 100 km/h on rural roads, and 120 km/h on highways unless otherwise posted

Chile has a network of toll highways, particularly in the central zone. Electronic toll systems (TAG) are used in Santiago, your rental car should include a TAG device, but confirm this when booking. Fuel stations are plentiful in populated areas but may be sparse in Patagonia or the Atacama, always plan ahead for long distances.
Renting a car is ideal for exploring Chile’s many national parks, remote towns, and natural wonders. You’ll experience more flexibility and freedom than public transport can offer.
