Just outside Faro in the quiet countryside of Estói lie the Roman Ruins of Milreu, where you can wander through the remains of a once-luxurious villa of the 1st-4th centuries. Marvel at the intricate fish mosaic floors, explore the old baths, courtyards and the temple that stood long ago. Then there’s the pink palatial wonder of Estói Palace with its tiered gardens, fountains and azulejo tiles that blend history and romance in every view. For taste of local life stop by the Mercado Municipal in Faro or the Mercado Municipal de Olhão to enjoy fresh fish, vibrant veggies, sweet pastries and handmade crafts, perfect places to soak up genuine Algarve atmosphere.
